Observation and Measurement:
Two Retrospections into the 3D Laser Scanning Information of the Great East Hall of Foguang Temple

The Great East Hall of Foguang Temple was built in mid-Tang Dynasty, year of 857. It’s the earliest example of wooden structure in China. The example coveys large amount of historical architectural information, some are known, while more to be revealed.
Based on a recent repeating survey with 3D laser scanning of the Great East Hall of Foguang Temple and reviewing previous observations, this article brings similar examples into discussion and focuses on clarifying the detail joint between Ang and Jiaohu Dou at the 2nd step in Dougong bracket, and analyzing the step-distance of it which matters crucially to the design of the pitch of Ang. In addition, comparison was made in between existent examples with mutual type of qipuzuo Dou-Gong, to reveal the details of original design.
