In the summer of 2010, my interest in ancient Chinese architecture was developed, as participating in the Studio of Surveying and Mapping on ancient Chinese architecture held by the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University for the third-year undergraduates.
Unexpectedly, but not surprisingly, the interest turned out to be enthusiasm. It retains and keeps me thinking about how the ancient Chinese craftsmen designed and constructed buildings, then how those people manipulated these materials in the old days, and how we can understand and conserve/preserve them.
Answers are inconclusive, but sparkling and intriguing. Thanks to my mentor Professor LIU Chang, these sparkles could be generated and preserved. I really appreciate his patience, vision and sapience, and look forward to igniting those sparkles someday in the future.
Hail to the old days we spent, and the past we imagined together.
